Harbor Porpoise Citizen Science
Volunteer Celebration
Welcome to the party on Thursday, November 17th, 3:00-4:45 PM!
Pacific Biodiversity Institute is having a party to celebrate our wonderful volunteers and some great data that was collected. You do not have to be a current volunteer to participate. Come if you are interested in learning about this project. The Citizen Science Observers for PBI collected over 150 hours of observations of harbor porpoise in the 4 months they have been helping. This data will allow us to develop a baseline of harbor porpoise presence in Burrows Pass and will allow us to investigate the seasonal variations of the porpoise use of this important marine area.
We also collected 26 days of acoustic recordings of the porpoise which demonstrate a strong diurnal variation with the majority of the time they are present being at night. We will be correlating this data with the observations our Citizen Scientists are making.
