National Wildland Fire Acreage Year-to-Date: 3,112,908 acres
The current area burned by wildfires is significantly lower than the ten year average of 3,810,797 acres for this time of year.
This year so far only 34.1 % of the land burned is in the National Forests.
Wildfire statistics can be looked at in terms of amount of land burned (acres) or number of fires. This year, 19.4% of the total number of fires have started on National Forests.
The vast majority of fires burning this year (73.5%) have started on private, state and tribal lands. Only 26.5% of the fires have started on federal land (BLM, Forest Service, US Fish and Wildlife Service and National Park Service).
