About the ESA

Call to action: Throughout the world, many animal and plant populations are declining at unusually high rates. The threat of massive extinction is a sign that our environment has been seriously degraded and a call to action to protect both threatened and healthy populations. Species decline and extinction does not concern only animals and plants of far-off lands, many once-plentiful species from our own back yard are negatively affected by a degraded environment and loss of habitat. A number of Pacific Northwestern species that were once abundant and symbolized this region are now at the brink of extinction. As the web of life is interconnected, it stands to reason that our personal well-being and quality of life are jeopardized by many of the same factors that are causing the decline of non-human species.

Pacific Biodiversity Institute (PBI) brings you this Internet resource with the intention of providing the most up to date and complete information on federally and state listed endangered, threatened and sensitive species as well as other species of conservation concern. It is hoped that this information can be used by all people, everywhere so that species extinction can be avoided.

What you can expect from the Endangered Species Information Network:
- A listing of all federally listed threatened and endangered species    
           for each state within the Pacific Northwest.
- A detailed description of each species with a map of their current 
           population distributions.
- Hyper links to other web sites with additional information.

Our goals:
- Provide every person, organization, and institution one source of 
           usable information on all species of concern within the Pacific 
           Northwest.
- Raise awareness of species trends within the Pacific Northwest.
- Provide an arena where all people can add sightings data, ideas for 
           solutions, reasons for concern, and news flashes, so that the 
           information of this page can grow as a network of information.
